Atwood’s Bakery opened its doors in October 1977 as a small cake supply store located in Pineville, Louisiana. In 1980, Atwood’s took over an existing bakery located on Texas Avenue. Then in 2004, after outgrowing that location, the Atwood’s moved the bakery to the current location at 1125 MacArthur Drive.

     Mark and Rhonda Atwood met in college. He was a religion major and she a business major. After graduation and the birth of their first child, they moved back to Mark’s hometown to open a cake shop with Mark’s mother Joy. The Atwood’s have two children, their daughter Jennifer and their son Aaron. Currently they have three grand children, Cody, Emily, and Kayla. A fourth is on the way.

     Mark & Rhonda have a passion for not only their own bakery, but for the baking industry as a whole. Mark has been President of the Deep South Retail Baker’s Association, as well as President of the national organization of the Retail Bakers of America. He has chaired many regional and national committees on education and training of decorators and bakers. Mark, along with three others, designed the standards and test by which decorators and bakers can become nationally certified. Currently he is President of the RBIF, a national foundation the helps bakers with education and training. After Katrina the foundation organized several fundraisers, in order to help bakeries that were devastated by the hurricane recover. Mark was also voted Small Business Man of the Year in 2006 by his peers in Central Louisiana. Rhonda is currently serving as President of Deep South Retail Baker’s Association. Mark & Rhonda’s drive for excellence shows not only in themselves, but also in their employees. Out of 129 American Certified Master Bakers, the only two in Louisiana work at Atwood’s. We also have four American Certified Cake Decorators.

     The Atwood family started the bakery to provide beautiful cakes and delicious desserts to the people of Central Louisiana. Over the years, the bakery’s reputation and tasty treats have traveled all over the U.S., Canada, and Overseas.
